Changing Alternatorss

I am changing my 67 Alternator to a newer 2 field Alt. The problem is I can't get it to charge. New alt is from a 74 A body and is new. Some one told me to bypass the Regulator and that didn't make sense to me, but then again I am Old School and a lot of the new stuff don't make sense to me. LOL. I am using correct year Regulator "1967". Anyone know what I am doing wrong?:icon_eyes:
 
If you take one of the field wires to ground the dual field alternator will work, but maybe you could find a donor car and take the electronic voltage regulator, plug and wiring.
Also I would change the 12v power wire to 10ga.

OK, thanks for the link. That was a very good article, it explained how to get this done and it is simple. I am going out to the shop now and give it a whirl. If you hear an old man yelling afterwhile you will know its on fire or it didn't fix my problem. BIG GRIN!!!
 
wma1950, I too am working with the same issue, I have a 67 ply with a big block. I used the original style regulator with a two field alternator and with the "extra" field post grounded as it says in the above article the voltage spikes to over 15 volts as the rpm is increased.I was thinking about installing the solid state regulator, did you do it as stated in the mopar action article?how did it work?
 
It's not a 2 field alt. It just has 2 terminals.Same basic design with a diff regulator and diodes. The Mopar Action way works perfect providing you have good grounds and are routing your "charge wire" around the bulkhead connector.
