Yes, I know you can buy repops, but they are not cheap by any means. Are there any "unsilenced" type air cleaner housings out there that will fit and look somewhat right? I don't care if they are off another make, they'll get painted black wrinkle and I'll put the proper decals on them. Most aftermarket units that I have seen are the open element type, so I'm hoping somebody recalls an application with smallish unsilenced factory units.

Don't laugh at this one but I have used slant 6 (63-69) unsilenced tops with a cheap 9''chrome 4bbl air filter/base from Summit or Jegs (about $13 bucks). The ones from cars with C.A.P.are larger diameter and have a nipple on them and look(sorta, kinda,)like the Maxi's.Both types (factory) use the same filter. You can play with filter hights if hood clearance is a problem. One thing is they are cheap to free.

You know I was looking at 225 air cleaners but figured I couldn't get a 4bbl base plate, but you solved that issue, so guess what I'll be looking for in the bone yard? lol Thanks!

What's CAP?

Clean Air Package. Mopar's early emission control that connected the oil breather cap to the air filter housing with a high tech 5/8'' rubber hose. I plan on using them on a crossram Hemi 65 Belvedere.

This isn't directly related, but close enough that I don't want to start a whole new thread. I'm wondering why guys choose an unsilenced aircleaner. Is it a performance thing or a noise thing? i.e. you want to hear the carb sucking air. I'm not a drag racer, so I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff, just curious.

I like them because they look right. On a mopar it's either an unsilenced or the dual snorkel for me. In this case it would wind up being a quad snorkel, so I'm staying with the unsilenced. lol I'm sure there may be some advantage to the design, but you're also sucking hot air off the block, so I don't know if there is any real gain.

I see you found the one I was talking about.

Damn,, somebody musta heard us talking...........

It's only temporary. You've got three cheap guys on here, looking for what has to be one of the most common and valueless mopar air cleaners out there, so we can use it in a non-factory application, and that's probably about it. hahaha

If you pay more that $20/complete you're crazy. Outside of spark plugs and belts, and odd items that really haven't been on the market long, I refuse to pay retail for anything going on this car. So far, it has gone well. Maxie on a budget? You better believe it.
