My 66 Charger tach is not working.

I was checking the EL unit behind the glove box and got on the tach sending unit by mistake and put 12 volts to it. Have I fried it? The tach was NOT working prior to this but just saying. What is the proper way to check why the tach is not working? I have power from the neg. side of the coil to the tach sending unit.

I am not sure but when I hooked my hand tach up and got on the wrong side of my coil ( pos. side by mistake ) I think I fried it because it never worked since.

I understand but as I said above It was not working BEFORE we put 12 volts to it thinking it was the EL componant.

I just need to know the correct diagonsis procedure to check the entire system out.

is it a factory unit or aftermarket?Maybe you can find a service manual or call the company that made it.Sorry i don't have a good answer for you.

It is the factory in dash tach that came standard on all 66 Chargers.
