This is one of the reasons I always tried to have a detached garage that was in the back of the lot......but it still doesn't mean things won't get stolen but at least they have to see it and then break in to get it.Low-life scum that steal cars.

Thieving scumbags...
How fast that was done it looks like they cloned the key. Just steals the signal and copies it and it acts like the fob. If these are parked outside they need multiple security measures now included some type of OBD2 port lock, pin code, or even a regular alarm not hooked to the factory remote. They are telling everyone to keep your key inside a box that blocks RF signals so they cant use these cloning tools. Even without cloning it takes less than 15 minutes to make a key just by plugging in the OBD port and into the star canbus. Its a joke.

Run of the mill break-in and steal or a car jacking? I can attest to my home city of Mpls has turned into a car jacking Disneyland. Every day, any where, any time. They have no fear or reservations - they’ll jack you anywhere at any time. The Mpls force is down 200 desperately needed officers. Full scale downtown would typically have 60 cops to cover the area - they‘re down to 16. A high percentage of the jackings are coming from Juvies. These punks carry guns and just don’t have any fear whatsoever. I don’t know this gAl but hopefully she’s safe - a car no matter how sentimental isn’t worth your life.

Well she did leave it outside in the driveway. Still sucks but this day and age what do you expect to happen.

They stole it out of her driveway. Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago all have some of the worst hellcat theft in the country.

Not much different than 50-55 years ago. About the best way to disable a vehicle is to have a disconnect for the battery....but that's probably not the best way to protect this modern stuff. Parked in a locked garage is probably just as good and have a flesh eating dog inside.

All it takes is a small, hidden but accessible switch that cuts power to ignition, fuel pump, etc. to thwart most thieves. I don't know why more people don't do it. $10 and a little time and you are nearly theft proof.
