Just wondering what ins. company to go with. my car is being driven while it is being restored little by little but only about 2500 miles a year, only in nice weather. stored in the garage. would appreciate any opinions, thanks John

I'm with Hagerty, but I've not had a claim that could allow me to "judge" their coverage. Rates are competitive with Grundy,Heacock;etc. Each company has different clauses;i.e.,no "racing",no rollbars(potential "intent to race" is how they're perceived),etc. Since I do plan to take mine to the track,I may have to change companies-I'd hate to have something happen at the track and get cancelled because of it. I'd like to hear from the racers as well as to how they insure a street/strip vehicle.

How you register the vehicle may also have an effect. Here in MI,an "historic vehicle" plate means limited mileage;Hagerty takes that into account. Mine is registered "normally",so there's no mileage limitations.

I have Hagerty ins.
I told them it would see the track a couple times a year. As usual they ask about how many miles a year you would be driving it, How much replacement value you would need, They ask for pictures of exterior, interior, engine compartment, and trunk area. They ask what extras you might have on the car that would be of value for coverage purposes. You pay once a year and your covered. My policy comes with alot of little extras that I think are nice like, Gauranteed flat bed towing, Money for repairs while away on a cruise, They pay 100% of your covered amount if you tottal your car with no ins adjuster estimating the value of your car. There are more perks, I just don't have my policy in front of me,,,, it's out in the car sitting in the Garage!

BTW: Mine is also registered Historic Vehicle, but in Ohio. I don't recal that being a topic of discussion though with Hagerty... Could have been, I just dont remember it being.

I use Grundy and did have a claim last year. They were very good to deal with.

That sounds like what im looking for. depends on premium, at this point my car is probably only worth 6 to 8k.

Hagerty. Very reasonable rates, not too restrictive as far as being able to drive your car.

I have classic Collectors insurance by Infinity.. Im allowed 6,000 miles a year and have the option with road side assistance to tell them i want it put on a low boy instead of tow truck. Its $130 a year.. With full coverage.

Hagerty. I have had them for a few years and never had a claim. Not too restrictive. Car must be kept in a locked garage and they don't want you to use it for regular commuting to work. What most of these specialty insurers will do is try to get you to bump up the agreed to value so that they can charge more for the comp. They will also insure late model exotics for a lot less than regular auto insurance.

i have haggerty also. seems to be the popular insurance company to go with. i have full coverage with a total max of $28,000.00 should ANYTHING happen to it! i pay 245.00 a year

I too have Hagerty...i believe i get 5000/yr mileage. They only asked me for pics of the exterior.
In New Jersey, I have collector plates/registration...never have to get it inspected, think I pay about $280/yr.

Insurance

Hagerty here as well.

I have State Farm for everything I own. I just called my agent...said I want 30k insurance on the roadrunner....he said email me pictures of the car for the file....done.

I have Infinity also. Haven't had a need to use them so far so I can't attest to their service. I picked them over the others because they were less restrictive - and cheaper.
I pay $160/yr for $20,000 coverage - which I should bump up one of these days..

Check with your insurance agent and see what they will do. Might be surprised.

Haggerty claim

I have been with Haggerty for quite a few years. I have a "stated value" policy with the value determined by me and which I pay $125.00 a year. Full coverage...no decuctable.
They did require a outside policy on a "daily driver" vehicle to verify the vehicle is not used as a daily driver but for events, pleasure or transporting for service or repair only.

Last November I was returning home from a road trip and had a rear axle bearing failure that resulted in the right rear wheel/tire/drum assy sliding out from the housing. The fender tub prevented the axle from coming completely out and I was able to get over to the road side OK. There was a minor area on the rear 1/4 by the wheel opening that the paint was cracked from the contact.
I was delayed a day getting the axle repaired and when I returned home, called Haggerty and explaned the situation.
I was told the mechanical repair was not covered but the resulting damage was, I was instructed to obtain and submit a written quote with pictures and they received a check for the full quote amount in a short time.

I'm very happy with their service.
