Color me confused!

Hey there!

Who has got LEGIT pics to share of your original 440 c.i./375Hp engine from your 1967 Mopar? Many of you know I have been looking to buy a 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T. The more pix I see the more confused I get!

e.g.: Different color engine blocks, different air cleaners, etc...

If I am buying a REAL 1967 Coronet R/T, what the hell is the engine bay supposed to look like? (Please, no Hemi's. My wallet can't afford one!)

Like this. Air cleaner above is correct. There is a debate between wrinkle or gloss finish. Access to another original car says wrinkle for 11/67 build date.

Chrome valve covers are factory. In the picture below they are chrome under all the dirt.

Turquoise is the right color like stated above.

This engine bay looks pretty good. Picture borrowed from the internet. Plymouth GTX more than likely but pie tin is really the only difference.

There is a good article on mopar air filter housings that states that the duel snorkel with 13 indents on top and oval intakes is correct for 1967, but some cars did come with a round unsilenced housings in 1967.

Why am I seeing so many ORANGE engine blocks on cars for sale? I thought they're supposed to be that aqua/turquoise/teal color?

I bought a new 67 RT and the engine was turquoise. The valve covers were chrome. The air cleaner was also chrome. It was an early car.

Engines could have been rebuilt or pulled at one time or another and the owner preferred Orange over the stock teal. I did such to my 68 440 when rebuilt I painted it orange because I like it better. But I'm one that doesn't give a **** what someone else might get hung up,over - it's my car so I built it like I liked it. There may be others as dubious as myself.....

GetX'd, I am all for personal preference and I realize that it's just paint, but for a newbie like me it's a worry. I guess from now on I will have to ask more questions on any car I am looking to purchase.

GetX'd, I am all for personal preference and I realize that it's just paint, but for a newbie like me it's a worry. I guess from now on I will have to ask more questions on any car I am looking to purchase.

You're dishing out cash. You have a right to know all you can find out about a car and since these are 50 year old cars they've all been on a journey. Depending on your budget it's best to try and get one with as few owners as possible. I'm the second owner of my GTX and have had it for 46 years so I know most of but not all of the history. I was just a kid when I bought the cars and really wanted to know if it looked cool and went fast. The rest of it was immaterial. Now days it's a different deal. Good luck with your search.
