Hey all,

Since i own the car i noticed how the selector indicator on my steering column always has been a bit "off".
This is actually a little clip that can be removed but there is no real adjustments possible.
2 Days ago i had to pull the steering wheel to replace my indication cancelling cam is it was broken.
After reinstalling everything (also had the 2 nut removed that secure the assembly on the column to get some access to the wiring for soldering) the car will not start in P position, when selecting N it will start.
Now the indicator is more off and actually showing N while in Drive so i need to see how the set this properly again as this is kinda confusing now and does not look good.

I checked the manual but only found some regarding the manual gearbox adjustment.
Not really sure where to start with this, any suggestions/tips?
This is for a '69 Coronet, 727 tranny.

Likely the car won't start because it is not in park, and thus the neutral safety switch is not engaged. I believe you will find an adjustment nut on the shift rod attachéd to the transmission.

On that same subject, is there a way to get some to get some of the looseness out of the linkage from the shifter to the tranny (automatic w/column shifter)? Mine seems a little sloppy. Thanks

Check the torque shaft bushing for wear, it is a white plastic piece that allows the torque shaft for the column shift linkage to rotate freely. It is plastic so will wear out after 40+ years of service. Replacements/repops are available just search torque shaft bushing 68-76 b body.

To build on 65hemi's comment for the OP there may also be a problem inside the column with the shift indicator alignment as well. If you pull the steering wheel off you will see a metal ring inside with teeth/detentes that is installed over the turn signal switch which help the align the column shifter, that may be part of the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
First i will check on the tranny, as it is not activating the neutral switch the problem reaches to the tranny as well.
Which might be easier to do some adjustments compared to remove the steering wheel, which i pulled several times now :realcrazy:
As it also looks like the indicator is going "off" more when changing to the 2-1 range it might be slack somewhere.
I also did not realise the neutral switch will be on the tranny :D

If the car starts in N then your NSS is working fine, as an auto car will start in P or N. The problem is the alignment inside the column or linkage/lever for "park".

Thank you very much, I will check that out.

Ok, i've loosened up the column assembly again after removing the steering wheel; realigned and tightened up the 2 nuts securing the assembly.
After i readjusted the linkage on the tranny itself, now the indicator lines up perfectly and once in P position the car starts as well.

Thx for the suggestions!

That's one source for it I got a single one from classic. You only need one but if ehrenberg says it's quality, it probably is.

I will need a set of those as well as i found out, the torque bar is very sloppy.
