68 Satellite. Is there any difference between a big and small block, and/or between a 727/904 for the shift linkage on a column shifted car? Any different length parts, or different linkage entirely?

Car was a 318/904, PO swapped to 440/727. The shift linkage is stock, and has a real hard time reaching park. Additionally, the column display arrow doesn’t perfectly line up to the selected gear.

If they’re the same linkage, HOW do you adjust it? There are no clearly adjustable portions of the linkage, and adjusting the arm at the trans is not a small adjustment.

Maybe the whole column needs to be loosened from its brackets and rotated a bit to help?

i believe the torque shaft (trans to frame) is different.
A 727 is about an inch wider than a 904 so if you have 904 linkage the torque shaft will be about an inch too long. There is a slightly different bracket on the transmission as well and that height difference will affect your gear selection / engagement.

Thanks!

Any clue at all on the measurements of the torque shaft for one or both transmission?

Or ideas how to identify if I have the right bracket?

You can force the longer 904 torque shaft in and some will work but won't be quite right.i have made or cut and welded a few of these for A body cars.Removing an inch between the arms on the longer 904 torque shaft will correct the length (for an A body anyway).Make sure you index it before you cut and weld or just make one out of 1/2" round stock and 1 inch 10 gauge flat bar.
As for the trans. bracket i believe a van bracket works or mounting it below the tab on the trans. will correct it.
this is fanagling 1.0.1
Best to get a 727 torque shaft and trans. bracket for a B body.

Thanks guys!

I keep trying to talk the wife into a floor/console shifter, but she’s resistant. Ha
