Hey guys got a question. My 70 Charger came as a column shift, its getting ready to go to body shop soon and while there i was going to have them add in a shifter hump because i would like to make it into a 4 on the floor when i put it back together and am just looking for some advice, tips, on doing this conversion.

Thanks!

I did the same on my 70Bee. What parts do you have at the moment to get started with? Because there is more to it than just adding a trans & shifter in order to make it look as if it came with a 4 speed originally. Years ago I purchased a 69 Road Runner as a parts car & I used about everything from it to do the change over. I don't know if I would have even attempted it if I had round up the parts separately. I would hate to imagine the cost, plus the time involved hunting parts & pieces.

to round up all the pieces is around $2500

then there is yer time in changing everything over....make sure you can do it all to save some money, otherwise you will be paying for labor as well

Thanks for the replies guys, As for what I have....nothing right now as i wanted some input from you guys first before i just pulled the trigger and started buying s**t. Guess there's quite a bit involved which i figured. If i did choose to move forward, what things would you recommend?

Just to clarify, I'm referring to the B&M style ratchet shifters.

one issue you might take into consideration here is that the crankshaft for an automatic car is not completely machine finished for a manual trans input shaft. The hole for the pilot bushing is not big enough to accept the normal brass bushing, but there is a "special" bronze bushing to fix that.

The other issue is that the crankshaft center is also sometimes not drilled "deep" enough to accept the longer trans input shaft as well. I had to "cut" about 2" off the trans's input shaft so it would not bottom out to allow the trans to mate up to bellhousing

just warning ya

Passon Performance www.passonperformance.com , or even better Brewer Performance @ www.brewersperformance.com , has great complete 4 speed kits, with the proper hump for the tunnel, shifter boot, the trans cross-member, bell housing, flywheel, peddles & peddle linkages, z-bar, pivot, shift linkages & bushings, clutch, pilot & throw out bearings etc., they ain't cheap like $3999, but it's one stop shopping & guaranteed rebuilds on 23 or 18 spline 4 speeds or Overdrives... soon to have a 5 speed supposedly but been hearing that for eons now....

Thanks guys, Ill let ya know in a few months how it turns out.
