I bought a used set of 1851535 connecting rods. Some are marked with "LY" and some aren't. The numbers on the other side of the rods range from df55, df59,df68-1-2, and df67-1-2 . My question is how do I know if this is a matched set? All are 1851535's but any other way to tell? I was going to have them reconditioned but wanted a matched set to start with. Any difference between a rod from a 67 440 and a 74 440? Thanks for your time

I think most all 440 factory rods are built the same, except the 6 pak ones. Those have more metal at the wrist pin and above the bearing area. So they are heavier. Even the old 413 rods should be adequate. I had a 413 that I spun up to 7000 RPM all the time at the drag strip, and no probs. Be sure to use new hi strength rod bolts and have the rods re sized.

I once built a 440 with hemi rods in it, which are a little longer and heavier. Any way, that motor threw a rod when my friend took it down the drag strip and went from first to second and then back to first. Over revved and threw a rod!

I have a set of LY's that have different DF numbers too and they are supposed to be out of the same engine but since I wasn't the one that pulled them, I can't confirm that. Anyways, two rods have DF 140 and another two rods have DF 121-1. The rest are all different numbers but all of them are the same shape and size but I'm not sure about there being any difference between 67 and 74. I also have another set of LY rods that I know came out of the same engine and most of the DF numbers on those are different too.

Ditto what Cranky said....I pulled my LY's out of a running engine and they all have different numbers in addition to the 1851535.

Just out of curiosity have you weighed each rod separately?

Not yet. I will weigh them when I take them to be reconditioned
