Just wanted to bring awareness about a seller on ebay who is also selling outside of ebay.

I found an ad on eBay by BestofShow#1, and it indicated they had other parts available or if you had questions call them. The funny thing is the original ad said they were selling 1 lug nut, and I found other ads with no pictures or other pictures of items that are not for sale in the ad, i.e., an entire car and saying the sale is for something else.

Anyway, I called them and asked if they had any lower door panels, the guy says yes, asks if I need anything else so I gave him a couple of other items. Later that day he sends me a photo (of a complete door panel set) assured me they were in good shape and by the photo they were good and indicated they did not have the other parts I was looking for. So I ordered them from him.

Now here is where it starts getting shady. First the guy wanted a cashiers check, I said no, I will send payment via pay pal, do the just send funds thing so they don't get charged a fee. He agreed so I sent him payment.

So about 3 days pass, and no notification for shipping, so I send them an email and ask if my package has been shipped, They said they were looking for an appropriate box to ship. I said ok, no problem. Well 2 more days pass, and I asked again, was assured that it would be shipped that day. Finally 6 days after ordering it was shipped.

The package arrived today, in a box that was basically two pieces of cardboard shaped to look like a box put together with half a roll of tape, and it was heavily dented on one side, so I though oh crap, they are damaged. I open the box, there is only some scrap packing material between the panels, nothing around the outside, but fortunately the panels were in tact.

After looking over the panels I see the armrest pads had been taken off, but were shown in the pictures they sent to me. There was never any mention that the set would not include the arm rest pads and it my opinion it was assumed what they sent me a photo of was what I was buying. So I send them an email and ask about why there are no armrest pads. They reply back, "oh, if you want a set we have some for 50 to 60 dollars on ebay". I answered back and told them there was never any discussion that the set in the pictures didn't included the pads. Well they replied back and told me that if I was to purchase a bumper and the entire car was shown should i expect to get the entire car. Also told me to get my head straight and not contact them for business again until I do. The note back to them was not nice to say the least about how they treat their customers.

So my point is that they are not exactly honest, seem kind of shady with payment, and take much too long to send out items and just wanted everyone to be aware of these folks, buy at your own risk.

I am happy I got a good set of panels, and I have spare armrest pads, but geeze they shouldn't have to be such aholes about something that is so minor!

It certainly would seem like that most days lately, I think I own Christine's sister or something! LOL Anyway, at least I finally got all the interior stuff needed, just need painted and is good to go!

Not to rattle your feathers, but I agree with the seller. When I sell on eBay, it clearly states that I may take up to five days to get an item shipped. I'm not a business, I'm a guy, and guys have other things to do besides making daily trips to the post office. Keep in mind the old standard for shipping from even businesses was two weeks from most vendors! Now, about a third of the time when I sell on ebay, I start getting inquiries beginning on day frigging two from buyers who want to know if their item has shipped yet! It's like they want that shipping confirmation number the day they pay for the item! Yeah, I could be like a lot of eBayers and use shipping software to generate a number and post it even though the item won't actually ship for a week, which also drives me crazy, but I find that misleading. I don't know when so many people got so spoiled that they think if an item isn't shipped immediately it's cause for a crisis, but a lot of people seem to think that way. The worst part of it is a seller has to take it on faith that the payment is good, which is another reason I delay shipping. What happens is someone hacks a paypal account, uses the account to make a purchase, you ship the goods, then the guy who owns the account notices the purchase and cancels it. Paypal immediately rips the money out of your account and returns it to the account holder and you are left with no money, no merchandise, and no say in the matter!

As to the shipping material used, yeah, it may have looked like crap but it apparently worked, and as the Marines say "if it sounds stupid but it works, it ain't stupid." :) You can't find boxes for most large car parts, so you have to use stuff like cardboard panels and packing tape a lot of the time.

I also agree with them on their description. You told them you wanted a door panel set, and arm rests are not part of a door panel, so I wouldn't expect to see arm rests show up any more than a window crank. :) As for pictures, they sent you pictures of the door panels you were buying so you could evaluate the condition they are in, and I'm guessing those are the panels they sent. Yes, they could have taken the time to pull the rests off before taking the pictures, but you could have asked if the arm rests were included, so I would call that a draw.

I sold an item on New Years Eve, and got an email from the buyer on flipping New Years Day wanting to know if his item had shipped! Then he writes me again on the 2nd wanting to know it it's shipped, and I told him I state in my ad that I take up to five working days to ship. Then he writes me on the 6th and says it's been five days and he wants to know why it hasn't shipped yet, and I had to explain to him that holidays and weekends are not working days.

I always offer buyers a chance to buy insurance, but of course this guy declined. When that happens I pay for it myself to protect my own interests and I'm glad I did this time. It was an item worth $450 or so that he got a smoking deal on for $150, but UPS did something to it (I suspect the delivery guys took all their outrage over UPS reducing OT last December out on packages) and the box and item were damaged. At this point it should be doom on him as he declined to pay for insurance, and I had no responsibility to pay for it, but I told him I had insured it for $200 and he could file a claim. Of course, with untold thousands of damage claims stemming from the holidays hitting UPS, getting the claim processed was not an overnight affair, and I kept getting email after email from this pinhead wanting to know when "I" was going to refund his money! I kept telling him my responsibility ended once UPS delivered the item, and he needed to take the matter up with UPS. After about three weeks, the seller opens a dispute against me with eBay saying the item shipped was not as described! I sent eBay all the info about how the item was exactly as described, and had been damaged in transit, and how the seller had initiated the damage claim so he knew the shipper was the problem, and eBay immediately closed out the dispute.

So after about a month, I hear from UPS and they said they thought the damage was from "poor packaging", which it wasn't, and they returned the package to me, which was the best outcome I could hope for. I picked the item up, took it home, sent the buyer his $150 back, and used some spare parts I had laying around to fix the damage and I relisted the item with a statement saying it had been damaged in transit, returned, and repaired, and guess who I hear from? Mr. PITA who wants to re-buy the item for $150! I cancelled his bids, and the item ended up selling for $374 to a new buyer who was just fine to work with.

Selling outside of ebay is against the rules period weather the seller is right or wrong, he is by default wrong for selling outside of ebay or using ebay to lure buyers to his collection of stuff. You have every right to bash this nut job possible thief.

I don't have much regard for eBay rules. :) I used to, back in the 1990s when business was done on a level playing field, but since then they have continually changed the rules to benefit themselves and buyers, and screw the sellers. They figure there is far more motivation to use eBay on the seller side, so if someone is going to get screwed it might as well be them. And as I've written many times on this forum about the need for balance in business, there is a need for balance in this business as well, and if the only way that can be achieved is by going outside the rules, so be it.

If I find someone selling an item that leads me to believe they might have an item I'm looking for, I contact them. And if they have one and want to add a listing for it, that's fine. And if they want to sell it directly to me and skip eBay, I'm fine with that too. :)
