Got mine from Ultimate, spoke with Lenny, great advice and product.

Another good option is Dynamic. Very happy with what they made for me. A good converter makes all the difference in performance.

Any thoughts on stall speed for this set-up? ballpark?

Just me I would do at the minimum a 2500 stall to keep slippage down on the street...car's lighter and you should have gobs of torque

with those gears and a light car you have a wide range of choices
pick one of the good converter guys and tell them how you want it to drive
more street or more strip
get a good cooler and I'd run at least 3/8 lines (I go 1/2 inch and a 100 plate and fine cooler with 1/2 inch in and out
what's your compression?
you want a Saturday night hot rod or something where the converter actually locks up driving around town
Dynafow or cast Iron Hydromatic effect
tradeoffs
The purple shaft costs some torque but the gears sorta make up for it
In our testing for Chrysler with a low compression 440 the HP converter was needed just to move a Cordoba- they made it stock
Other test showed that one size bigger DC cam (I think 272 DC) than the HP cam (268) and HP converter cost 60 ft time
two sizes bigger cam cost 1/8 time - which you are past with the 284
so gears and converter are needed with your 284 unless it is a freeway flyer and you can live with a little slower off the line
I'd like to hear how it turns out
purple shaft degreed as per spec?

Everyone has something good to say here and a veteran converter mfg will know the best solution. Keep in mind converters are a combo of science and experience.

In my bracket racing days I ran several brands. B&M, Turbo Action & Coan. All had good parts. My current version is a Dynamic 9 1/2". It does the job, 512" 3700# car. The torque converter makes the performance.
