I took a look at my mag 500's and it seems that they either were painted silver or they came that way with the black inserts. Then the trim rings are on them. If I want to get them back to looking like new, it seems to me that I have to use Argent paint on them. I do not belive that they were ever chrome. I don't think stock 500's came out of the factory in 69 with black and chrome. Sooooooooo. the Argent paint is correct for them?

I'm guessing you're talking about the spokes? They were NOT painted argent, but were sort of a brushed finish. The black isn't gloss. What I use is BBQ black, which is a rich semi-gloss black and looks the most correct to me.
