70 Road Runner 383. After having my gauges restored, my water temp gauge reads too high. ( I've checked with a laser & second gauge). What is the original temperature rating of the OEM sending unit ? And, if the gauge reads too high, do I install a higher or lower rated sending unit ?
Thanks, Rocket

may be the voltage limiter on the rally gauge circuit board not limiting enough thus reading artificially high. You can use resistors to reduce. Search the electrical forum there have been a few threads on this topic.

make sure you have the correct sender, the one for the light is different from the one for the gauge.

Jaws: I agree. I understand that the sender must be coordinated with the gauge. But before I start throwing money at a bunch of different rated senders, I need to know the original temperature rating and then make my adjustments. Normally, these are rated between 250-300 F. But what was the original temperature rating ?
Thanks, Rocket

UPDATE: My mechanic says they have tried several different temperature sending units but have never been able to bring the temp gauge needle into the center. But my after market gauge reads correctly & the laser confirms this.
So... what specific resister am I looking for ? Ohms ?
Thanks, Rocket
