OK, lets play the price is right. How much would you think it costs to rebuild a 69 440.
New Pistons (20 over)
New valve springs
bearnings
rings
all new seals
Dyno work
heads rebuilt
new cam
timing chain
ect

Let me know what you guys think.

Minus dyno testing, it cost me $2500 plus a trade of a '77 Ramcharger 440. What I got was: A clean block bored .020" over, Mopar Pistons, Clevite piston rings, Summit racing cam with extra lift, double roller timing set, 906 Heads with hardened valve seats, all new bearings, and everything. The engine was a '71 so I spent $120 on a "402" oil pan, and $200 on a fair water pump with a short neck, and $160 for the correct valve covers.

All depends how stock to high performance your going to go..I mean u can spend 199 for cheap & 700 for better quality forged pistons...for example

Theres quite a big magin for error here-
Not cheap by any means- here in Canada anyways

rebuild

I am going to keep it almost 100% stock. I do know he is using molly rings and all good name parts, sealed power, comp, ect. He does really nice work and has made or rebuilt MANY race engines for alot of my freinds and some at the nascar level. Does $3500 sound like a good price?

If that 3500 includes dyno work and all parts and labour Id go for it but I would upgrade to a bit better rods/pistons if your budget allows-

rebuild

I will have a very detailed list shortly. I will then post it.

$3500.00 and up for a standard 440 rebuild.
I built my stroker my self and dropped over $7000.00
My friend has $8200.00 into his beefier than stock 440

Two guy's I went to school with for North American V8 Engine building also built stock 440's and they both got it done for $3500.00 Canadian with them doing almost all of the work.

update

Ok, so far the block has been bored .0020 over.
Here is what is going into the engine:
Hasting molly rings
Sealed power pistons
Michigan rod and main bearnings
Durabond cam bearings
Melling Oil pump
Cloyes Timing Set
Johnson Lifters
Ereson Camshaft
New Valve springs
New intake and exhaust valves
4 hours of dyno
heads redone
paint engine and magaflux
all new gaskets

the total cost is $3700
This guy does nothing but great work, have seen his work for years, mostly in all my friends race cars ( Nascar, short tracks, dirt tracks).
So I am VERY confident in his work.
