Any welding tips or other advice on repairing a hairline crack on a 1970 hurst shifter? I know i can buy a new one but i don't want to spend $120 for a replacement part.

V it out a little, clean the grease and oil out, pack something inside to block off any dingleberries from getting into mechanism, pull the trigger and weld. Don't get too frisky on the heat. 5 second job on a wire feed, welding wise, if even that. You'll spend more time on just prepping for the weld. Easy.

TIG welding will be soooo much smoother and ya don’t need to break out the grinder.
