Hoping to get some thoughts on Cragar SS rims on early brake drums.
Have multifit 15 x8s on the rear of 1963 tapered axle diff.
Have been getting some weird noises that sounded like they were coming from the rt rear hub.
Pulled the wheel off and it looks like one of the balance weights on the drum is sitting slightly out from surface of the drum ( tried to show with ruler in pic) and stopping the wheel from pulling up flush wirh the drum.
You can also see an indent in the alloy above one of the stud holes on inside of rim, which appears to be from the balance weight.
Just wondering if anyone has ever had this issue?
Was going to grind some off the balance plate, can't see it making much difference to balance, but the weights are obviously there for a reason, so hoping to get some ideas.

Anyone had to do this and if so was there any issues with vibration?

As a side note, also looking at getting some centering rings made for these rims.
I don't like the idea of the studs supporting all the weight and centering the rim, especially with elongated slot for the studs( actually illegal wheels where I live but that's another story)
Anyone else done this, am I worrying about nothing here ?

Appreciate any responses.

That is a balance weight, so yes. It. Will have an effect on the balance.

Why not grind the wheel where it hits that weight.

While we don't like lug centric wheels, they seem to work just fine.

I gave up on unilug wheels years ago. Hoaky is just the beginning.

Sounds like they were just typical loose unilugs
