what is the proper way to store a crank. ive heard standing straight up on flywheel flange.

Honestly, standing up on the flywheel flange is the easiest. As long as they don't lay down (supposedly)without proper support (stands), you are fine.

With a crankshaft rack. Held by the rear flange. If you don't have that standing up on flange. Use oil NOT WD40 for rust protection

X2 on no wd40. I sprayed my 451 crank with wd40 about a year ago. Just got it back from the machine shop - had to be professionally polished due to the little bit of surface rust that developed.

If you use WD40 you need to wrap in plastic as it is a water dispersant so not a long term protector if not sealed
Needs to be washed and dried before use
