How can you tell the differenace between cast and forge crank.

the crank has 64 stamped on it. came out of a 70 383 4bbl motor.

Look at the line running down the crank. You can see it best on the side of the rod journals. If its wide, about 1/4 inch, its forged. If its a thin line its cast. Should be forged in that motor

Also if you tap the crank with a wrench or something. They will make a different noises. A forged crank pings just like a tuning fork. A cast crank makes more of a thud.
