Hey Guys!,

Can anyone tell me the difference between the crankshafts for 383 and 440's with regard to manual and automatic transmissions? Or is there a difference other than installing a pilot bearing?

Thanks,

Jim

Some cranks didn't have the pilot bearing hole drilled deep enough to accommodate the input shaft. Usually the pilot bearing bore size is correct so just need to drill it deeper.,and there is usually a step down in size for the clearance part. I actually had to do this once but did it on a lathe with a steady rest. Care must be taken so you don't drill through the cross drill in the rear main. You can also cut the tip off the input shaft to fit the non drilled crank. As long as the input shaft engages with the bushing you will be fine. I ran like that for years.
