1968 GTX VIN starts with RS23, then the engine (L=440 375hp, for example).
I have no idea what that one in the OP is...

I've seen it (the F) before, but 30+ years of aluminum dust isn't allowing me to recollect what it was about !

That F was either put there as a joke back in the day....worker got bored, or it was somehow an accident.

I would have thought that there was a block or stamp head that held all 13 characters for the VIN, and it wouldn't be possible to add an extra one.

looks like "just" a mis-stamped "F" to me.

I think the typo/misstamp posts are correct. Look at the relationship between F and R on a keyboard. Fat fingers.

They are not common but typos happen.
