Help - I just installed a 18 spline 4 speed in my GTX from the 727. When I went to put the cross member back in the mounts are off? Looks like someone did some creative work to match it to the 727? Why, not sure - or did they? I have attached a picture. I was of the understanding the B Body cross member was the same for both 4 speed and autos?

Long story short - would some one like to sell me a cross member that will work? Please IM with pictures, price and paypal (or payment) info.

Thanks in advance

You will need a 4 speed crossmember. The auto ones are differnet. They were not the same on a b-body till 1970 when the trans mount location was standard. You can modify yours to install the mount inside the center of the crossmember.

This is correct. In fact, I THINK what the factory did was took an manual trans cross member and added the back piece on it (the basket) for the auto trans and welded a plate over the original basket for the manual mount. Take the welded plate off and you can use the one you have. You may or may not have to remove the rear basket.

i will post a few pictures I barrowed from another members post (Thanks HEMITIS) to use as reference. The first should be an auto crossmember like yours. You will need to cut the basket part off the crossmember and get a 4 speed rubber trans mount. Then where you see the one small hole and the two big holes on the bottom of the center of the crossmember that is where the new mount will be. You will have to cut the inside or middle top plate of your crossmember similar to the second picture that is actually a 62-65 early b-body 4 speed crossmember, but it will show you what a 4 speed crossmember looks like. Hopefully these pictures will help you uderstand the modification need to make a 4 speed crossmember from an auto.

Thank you all for the response and to educate me. Well, needed a boot for the fork so went ahead and purchased the crossmember as well from Brewers.

Again - Thank you all
