Cylinder Heads

Placed a bid, guy wants to close the auction. And wants me to pay the bidded price so he can ship early. But ebay discourages such behavior. Idk,suggestions? What ever happened to the Street Killer heads from Muscle Motors?

I don't see any problem with that-ta hell with ebay, far as that goes. I think that's a pretty good price for those, Indy's iron head shop gets $600 a pair minimum for a set, with options for more $. With these, I would imagine you can specify to some degree what you want put in there for less money. Your choice. Don't know anything 'bout Muscle Motors stuff.

Seems like a pretty good deal, might even be worth the extra $200 to get the valves, springs, etc. put in (unless you're super-picky). Now at $535 you're not too far from the $995 aluminum Stealth heads. I guess it depends what you want to do , maybe put the $$ instead into a good hot cam and lifters..

Well. I won the bid. Well let everyone know how they look when I get them. I wanted to stay with iron heads. Man I need to lay of the Ebay. I'm getting buyers remorse...

I just lost it!:grin::grin::grin:

I'm picking up a pair of 915s on Thursday;just going to set 'em up for 2.14/1.81 valves, bronze guides, pocket porting, gasket matching, and spring machining,if necessary. I want a "stock" look;I know the Stealths look stock, but their inconsistencies have often been mentioned here.

Well i got my heads in the mail when I was at the Nat's. One end was open. I knew something was up. I brought them in and opened up one of the packages. The one that was partially open. And noticed that they had not been cleaned after the media blasting was done(aluminum oxide dust all over them) and also a nice gouge in the head right in between the cylinders... I tried contacting the seller and no response yet. The gouge looks like i was done during shipping(maybe). I'm pissed. This my last ebag purchase.. Tired of getting bad deals. Is there aything I can do to? Can i use them as is or should i get them shaved some more. The seller said in the post that they were .005 cut off the surface. How much more can I go ?

You can run it. It will be completely surrounded by head gasket. That said, I don't care how NEW a head is....I am **** about the head and block decks. I would have it milled just to assure the deck surface is straight. That might be enough to clean it up. Even if it does not, it will be fine. That sucks about the end being open and blasting material everywhere.

Just saw you said they were already cut .005. I would try maybe that much....but do them both.

if i have them milled another .005 , then i'll have intake issues right? How much will it raise my compression?

.010" total will have a very minimal effect on compression. You also shouldn't have any issues with the intake.

If you're uncomfortable with milling anymore, why not try to dress the gouge with a file? That might take any sharp edges off and make it more presentable. It really doesn't look that bad.....course it's hard to tell, but from what it looks like, I'd slap it on and run hell out of it.

The blasting material scares me more. I'd have to disassemble them completely and clean them up GOOD before they went on anything I was building.

I had my 906 heads milled .010" , and still used a paper gasket on bottom of intake valley pan. 2 paper gaskets were too much, and had to remove the top ones next to the manifold. Are those 906 heads? I have a set if you need an extra one P M me. But I would mill it enough to clean it up. Thats the area where they most commonly leak, between the 2 center cylinders on either bank. Good luck

I'm interested in what the shop has to say if and when he responds-like I said, he has a good reputation in these parts. The blast residue bothers me too-how hard is it to point a blowgun at stuff? I also think that marks ok, not great, but ok. Inside the fire ring, dress it a bit and you should be good to go. Can't blame the guy for the fact that they're heavy and the UPS guy is weak.

My wife has a sheet of paper on top of my Jegs and Summit etc catalogs marked SATANS TEMPTATIONS.

Man,
Like you, I too am an honest person BUT: I too have been "burned" on eBay.
I'm refraining from eBay from now on.
Just too many "hidden issues" that can not be confirmed until the package arrives.
From now on, ask if seller allows returns if customer is not satisfied.
Again, I've given up on eBay.

That mark isn't going to affect your seal, but filing or sanding that area will make matters worse. I would just leave it and spend your energy getting the heads as clean as possible. Dirt is our enemy! Ha ha. Also if you use steel shim gaskets, apply spray a gasket copper coat. I used it on my 451 and sealed up great. Also tighten head bolts in 10 ft. pound increments.

I'm not blaming the seller for the damage, but it could have been packaged better to avoid this kinda thing. The blasting dust isn't excessive but still there, I opened the other packaged head and it was even worse that the first. Gouged right next to the water jacket. The seller did respond and of coarse, no insurance on the shipping. What angers me more is that i seen a pair of 906's at the Nat's this weekend in the indy cylinder section, for $20 bucks more than what I paid for these things. IDK if another .005 is enough to clean up the other head. Here's what it looks like:

and heres a closer shot of the first one:

HA!!! Every time my wife stops by and looks over my shoulder the last 7 yrs for some reason she keeps thinking she'll find me looking at girls. Instead, every single time it's one of 3 things - on the FBBO site, on ebay motors, or on youtube looking at mopars. She just shakes her head. It's a good hobby to have! Keeps us out of real trouble.

That's funny!
