This is not a b-body, but I trust the information here best. I saved a d200 from the junkyard, I need to swap the old d60 for a replacement I already have. I wanted to do a spring under conversion while I was at it to lower the truck, Its only 2wd. I don't see a way to make the old u-bolts work, but I think I have a set that look heavy duty from another truck. Problem is they don't match the holes in the shock plate perfect, they are a little wider. My question: Is it ok for the u-bolts to be a little larger radius than the axle tube? This will be a dual rear wheel with a big block and maybe a 4 speed if I can find the parts. Would a caltrack type system be a good or bad idea. I'm not worried about traction, four tires should take care of that, axle wrap is my concern.
Thanks for the input
Eric

Get the right ones is always the best solution.

I'd just get new U-bolts as a matter of course when doing a swap. They aren't that costly, why fight with old threads?

What is the axle tube diameter? 3" is pretty common. 3/4 ton truck with CT's? Don't think I've ever seen that before so have no idea how it would work but if traction isn't going to be a concern with a dually setup, then why spend the money on them. Spring wrap up can be dealt with in other ways and for much cheaper.
