Anyone else have their axle bearings coming lose on their dana 60? I have tried to tighten them and even pulled the axles to press the piece of metal behind the bearing tight to the bearing but it came loose again. Any ideas?
Maybe you should try posting this question in the Engines Trans Driveline or the general discussion forum sections,
that way you will get far more responses & exposure...
this is the welcome wagon, it's not really intended as or for Q&A tech questions,
it's mainly for intros & getting to know each other etc.
Hey guys thanks for the responses. They are the factory style bearings. The problem is the adjustment, when I tighten the adjuster it fixes the problem but comes loose right away
You using the nut shown? Also you sitting the axles before adjusting? By sitting I mean pushing left axle tight to the right and then adjusting the left axle clearance to the retainer. You have to take the lock loss to do this and them put it back on when done.
It's possible you don't have the adjustment correct to begin with. If the adjuster is locked it should not move so I suspect your symptom needs a different problem.
What I do to adjust them is tighten the non adjustable plate tight then snug the adjustable plate down so the big nut has resistance when turning. Make the .008" - .018" adjustment then tighten the plate and check it again. Seems it's always off after it's tightened so you may need to take a couple of stabs at it. I also like to tap the axle ends with a brass hammer to make sure they move in and out and that things are seated. Another thought. Do you have the thrust buttons in the carrier?
