Has anyone used the Mopar performance conversion kit part # 5249444. It's supposed to convert it over so you don't have to set end play on the axles. I have a '70 35 spline dana and have been having trouble finding the stock bearings, surprised me but it's so, and while looking for other sources found these at summit. Anyone ever used them? good luck or bad? They are a Mopar part so I can't imagine they'd be junk. Any thoughts???

Those bearings do suck. If ya want to convert, get the green ball bearings. Dr. Diff (Cass) can hook you up and is a really good guy that knows his schiznit. I don't have a link to his website, google him.

Ive heard the green bearings aren't to "street driver" friendly, better for drag racing. Have you had good luck with them? I'll call your guy and check it out. Thanks!

I run the "green" bearings, no issues. The mopar ones you're talking about are basically the same except they use a stamped metal retainer that the bearing is pressed into.

Thats pretty much what I figured about what the Mopar ones are. I'll try them and see how they look and fit, and probably get a hold of Dr Diff and see what they have to say. Thanks to all for the for the help.

E booger from Mopar Action Hates green bearings for the street. Says they won't last in a car that goes around corners cause they have way less surface area for contact than the tapered style.

E Booger doesn't like a whole lot. I do agree with him, if your gonna do auto cross, stay with the tapered bearing, but if it mostly just street with an occasional twisty blasts, then the green will be just fine and hell, they seal better to boot.

Use ford torino ends and their bearings, you can upgrade to explorer rear discs. The bearings are larger and sealed for the torino ends. Tim

if possible get the factory bearings, the green bearings suck, they are not good for street use. we have had them fail on the street, the axle tube turned cherry red and blow a hole trough the top of the axle tube when the piece of crap green bearing got hot and failed. the axle shaft was twisted and almost in two pieces we were going down the thru-way at about 60mph when we felt something funny from the back and saw sparks, pulled over and the brakes were on fire. green bearings can not take side loads, i will never buy them again

I've heard, not personal experience, that most green bearings fail due to them being cocked on the axle shaft. Not too sure how this could happen, but just passing it along.

Im gonna try the Mopar bearings and see what happens, the car doesn't get drivin much, cars shows and a trip to the local drive in now and then, so should be easy to keep an eye on it and make sure they function as they should. I have a half dozen cars with dana's in them and the first hand knowledge will be helpful down the road. I'll report back here if the Mopar replacements give me any troubles.
