I've owned two Cordobas and both had rather dim instrumentation lights. Is it my old eyes or some other problem. Was this a Chrysler "thing"? Any solutions would be appreciated.
 
Could have a bad voltage limiter on the cluster, what year ? I will look at the wiring diagrams and see.
 
The dimmer is often the problem. They use rheostats which were not made of stainless steel and tend to corrode. JS Restorations rebuilds a number of switches and I've purchased dimmers for both my Challenger and my Charger from him.

You can also swap in LED bulbs as they tend to be brighter and use less power. They make bulbs that are direct replacements (no rewiring required).
 
I just changed my dash lights to white LED bulbs...huge change..much brighter.
If you go this route, you can't use them in your two dash signals, just keep the old ones in there.

Depending on how it's wired, they may work in the turn signals. If they do not work, you can switch to a "no load" flasher.
 
Thanks Jamie I was looking into those, but the amount I use the signals it wasn't worth it. I swapped all the brake, reverse and front rear signals to LED as well. I don't know how Hong Kong does it but for the price of two 1157 led bulbs at the auto store here I bought 10 1156 and 10 1157 and 8 dash bulbs for the same price free shipping....all in I think they were $18 to my door.

Both were 1977 models. I'm thinking at least one light is out in the cluster as you can't see the ammeter at all, it's the last gauge on the right. I was thinking about going to the LED lights, I've seen them for sale on eBay. As far as the directional indicators, they're fine it's just the instrumentation lights that make reading the speedo and other gauges difficult.

Which LEDs did you use? What size? Where did you buy them? TIA
 
Make sure they are the right ones you need, the ones I ordered were for a 65 Dodge. They sell kinds.

I used the bulb numbers from the tech manual and cross referenced them. Did you put the colored plastic covers back over the leds? I recall there were blue cover or difusers over the lights in my first Cordoba. I plan on doing this tomorrow, the LEDs arrived the other day.
 
I got them in today and they work fine...really bright. I was right in that one of the old bulbs was burned out, I think there are seven instrumentation illumination bulbs. There are light blue covers that act to tone the white light down to blue in order not to impair your night vision. I did not put these over the LEDs. I'll have to see how they are on a dark road. One warning, I guess, is to spread the wire contacts out from the base of the LED prior to inserting it. The first one I put in wouldn't light and I turned it 180 degrees and it still wouldn't light. Then I took it out of the socket and spread the two wire contacts so they would go up against the contacts in the socket. That worked fine. If you do this, you will see what I mean. You can use your dimmer to lower the intensity of the LED's but only a little, then the go out. I think they really prefer to be on full current. They make these things in different colors, in away I kind of wished I got orange or maybe blue but I think these will do the trick.
