did mopar have a dealer install a/c unit in the 60's. bolt on under dash were usually where they went. i had one on a 65 caliente and it was a niece pc. with the mercury head emblem and chrome face. i am looking for one for a 62 newport. dosen't have to be year specfic though. it's more for rebuild and use.:icon_idea:

If you watch e-bay, you can find these systems fairly often and much cheaper than Vintage Air or similar. I've bought two in the last year, one was a dealer add on specific to a '65 Malibu or Nova that I got to put in a '55 2 door wagon, paid right @ $600 for it, and have one now I'm going to put in my '68 X. Wasn't model specific, and does need brackets made for the compressor, but complete other than that, Sanden compressor and I got it for right @ $500.

The most common aftermarket a/c units for YEARS was the box that was approximately 18" wide X 6" high X 12" deep that was bolted to the bottom of the dash or on the trans tunnel.

Different auto companies also provided their own after market unites that were tailor made for particular cars that some were very close to the factory car units. We put a lot of factory aftermarket units in Darts from 1967-mid 70s. These Darts have a long flat under dash area that this unit was a slim line unit with the controls and the vents in the middle and ends that look very similar to what came from the factory.

I have factory air in my cuda have no idea how many times folks will argue it's dealer installed due to the under dash unit till i point out the buttons in the dash panel.

This is the factory 'approved' Airtemp dealer installed unit that came in a 66 Belvedere and probably other models too....notice it only has two vents but it has 4 levers to direct air to 4 different sideways locations. It needs a good restoration but the buttons seem to work ok and the blower works too.

Yeah, it's funny how that is when the mid 60's Mustangs did have an under dash unit with the controls on the unit and it was factory and no one questioned that rig lol

That is what I was describing above and is a universal type that many people put their name on although there were several companies making them.

They blow good cold air when working properly as they recirculate the already cold air in the car. The down side is there is no fresh air coming in the car and after a while the air gets kind of stale. A factory system brings in 20% freash air while recirculating the rest unless you have it on max a/c in which case it shuts off the fresh air.

it's the moisture that is warm. they all act like a dehumidifer, but it is better. Any way, i was just asking if mopar made their own after market unit.

I don't like the new cars with the 'automatic' fresh air systems. My 66 came with factory in dash ac (that unit above came off another 66) and I ran it on max air to keep the foul air out whenever I went to work and went through a tunnel to get on the other side of the Houston Ship Channel. Besides, most firewalls leak a bit...probably not 20% but still. If I needed fresh air, I could open the floor vent or hit the ac button.
