Any one using the new carbs under "Demon Carburetion" name post Barry Grant? Just wondering if the quality has improved since Holley took over..

Don't know the story. How "new? My old 850 circa 2008 works fine.

If you read the write-ups in the magazines, they are a nice improvement. Of course it can be difficult to bash a company when they are paid advertisers, right?
I think that they are now trying to carve out a niche in the "Slightly warmed over V8 segment". Nicely designed vacuum secondary carbs based on the Carter & Edelbrock principal. Most everyone has found out that a big inch, big cam engine runs like crap with a stock type Carter or Edelbrock due to their finite tunability. For an engine 440 and smaller with moderate performance in mind, the new BG carbs are probably great. When you start to get BIG power, you switch to a Holley or Holley type carburetor since there are literally thousamds of variations with all the jets, Power valves, air bleeds, boosters, accelerator pump cams, squirters, etc.
The guys running Drag cars in Pure Stock or F.A.S.T. have to use the stock type carburetors and spend ungodly amounts of money making their Carters run hard. I'll bet they have parts custom made to get their "stock appearing" 540" Hemi to run mid 10s with iron exhaust manifolds and those Carters.

Yep.. I'm in that boat. Cams too big for the eddy carb, don't want to drill the primaries so I can use it on something else or sell it.

Next question downleg or annular boosters.. Looks like on the Speed Demons you can have either.

They went bankrupt a few years back and Holley bought the company. BG had a spotty reputation for quality control. I've read several instances where there were metal shavings in the metering blocks. I have a Demon 850 from 2004. I have had good luck with it except that it does seem to run too rich. I have found that to get my air/fuel numbers down, I'll have to jet the primary side down 3 more sizes. The problem is, when I jet it down, the power drops off. I plan to reduce the jet sizes but increase the flow at WOT. This will allow it to run cleaner at cruise speeds but still have the same power level at WOT that it has now. The way to get there is to use a Primary metering block with replaceable orifice jets behind the power valve. This isn't possible with most metering blocks, I had to install a "Quick-Fuel" block. Once I get around to it, i'll increase the jets in the metering block to regain the power I will lose from the primary jet size reduction.
