I'm picking one up tomorrow from a guy off cl. Can they be rebuilt or is there anything to rebuild on them, they guy says he pick it up from a rear end place that was there. I know they are a ractching type unit.

Well picked it up today looks brand new got it for $450. Its a 30 spline, no big deal since I have to order axles anyways. Is there that much of a difference between the 30 and 35 as far as strength?

Just noticed the box says 4.56 & up does that mean my 4.10s will work forget how gear ratio are up and down, if I. Can't use my 4.10s is there a way to space out so I can? Just get longer bolts.

careful with that ......theyre hell on front ends and only plan on going straight.....

i had one on my first road runner yearsssssssssss ago..didnt know much about it,,,,still dont really...all i know is itll make your front wheels hop and skip across the pavement when you make a turn ! that thing ate more front tires than it did back ones... lmao !

I have one in my 9 second brand X car. It drives really well it does have a weird side to side feeling when it first locks but always goes straight and true. Maybe the other gentleman had a spool in his car. Stock axles are 30 spline but I always recommend new hipo axles for this type of set up. I have never rebuilt one so I cant help you with that one. They are tough as nails though. Good luck I think it will work well for ya.

Thanks for your input. Well turn out I think its new, but I have 4.10 gears and the case is for 4.56 & up does anyone know if I can space it out to handle the 4.10s? If not I just ordered the gears from strange and will call them and get some 4.56s

I run a Detroit Locker in my 63. Been in there about 3 years now. No problems at all. All I can tell you is sometimes after making a turn and getting straight I can feel it engage both wheels back up. It lets one wheel freewheel when turning and then mechanically locks back up when straight. Works good for me. Ron

I put a locker in mine too and one thing I noticed is that it highlighted that the thrust angle of the car was off by about a quarter of an inch or so. The rear-end was a little cocked and pointed the car off to one side even when I was steering straight when I got into it and it locked up. They make shims to fix it, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

Dont sweat it man, I run a full spool on the steet with 28.5/12.50 ET streets and front runners and I have 0 problems. kinda sucks pulling into a tight parking spot but I almost always park far far away from cars anyway.

the detroit lockers were used by the ford guys back in the day and they say they're almost bullet proof. i'll bet your going to have to run a spacer for that 4.10 ring gear. i don't know if they're made for 8 3/4's; never seen one.

I called strange this morning it won't work ill have to swap my 4.10s for 4.56s, which they said they can do since I just bought the 4.10s from them. I think they make them for the 8 3/4 I could be wrong.

I have had a locker in my car for over ten years, and haven't had any troubles with it, except that sometimes it will make noise locking or unlocking. I don't understand the part about not being able to use 4.10s. I have 3.91s in mine.

I don't either, but I'm just going off what the box says. Guess they change the mount for the ring gear due to the ring being wider. Not really sure but hey ill launch harder with the 4.56s.

How much noise does it make?

Was your rear end cocked a little or was one rear tire a bit larger than the other. I got a set of 275 60's off a friend that didn't have a SureGrip and he had worn the right side tire down to about 50% of the left. That made the car want to steer to the right when that 1/2 way worn tire was on the right and steered to the left when that same tire was on the left so I canned them and bought two new tires. Problem gone....

Well I feel retarded, like I said I went off the box but the box was for the electronic locker, we fitted my 4.10s on it and fits perfectly.
