Well, hummm....earlier this year I purchase what I THOUGHT was a 1972 Dodge Charger Rallye. But, I came across some production numbers and it doesn't say anything about having a Rallye package. Is there a "tell" for the Rallye package? According to the picture, I have relatively rare (1:165) configuration, but is it a Rallye?

VIN: WH23U2A152xxx
W - Charger "B" body
H - "high" price class
23 - 2 door hardtop
U - 440 1-4BBL 8 Cylinder "RB" engine (High Performance)
2 - 1972
A - Lynch Road, Michigan Assembly Plant

Appreciate any info you might have...

Charger Rallye package = A57 option code on your fender tag.

From what I see in your picture, I'd say it probably IS a Rallye.

Well..... the '72 Charger Rallye package should have
... a dark argent grille - can't tell from pic?
... a Power Bulge hood w/Black Performance treatment - check!
... Simulated Door Louvers - check!
... Louvered Taillights - can't tell from pic?
... Rallye Instrument Panel - can't tell from pic?
... Front & Rear Sway Bars - can't tell from pic?

So, how much of this stuff does your car have?

Seems I recall something about Lynch Road built cars not always having all the option codes on the tag in all cases? Maybe I'm hallucinating about this though?

ok, think we're close. I know it does have the sway bars. Is that the correct instrument panel and louvered tail lights?

You've got the correct tail lamps it looks like. The instrument panel looks like a Rallye, but I'm no expert on these. Your front grille/headlamps are different, but there is a good explanation for that. L37 option on your fender tag is for "concealed headlamps", so "check" that is good.

Everything I see and you've told me about the car tells me this is a "legit" '72 Charger Rallye. I'm betting that A57 option code just doesn't get stamped on the fender tag at Lynch Road assembly.

I would be damned proud of that car if it were mine!

Also, G11 option is "tinted glass - all windows". Again, it looks like this checks out as well.

You didn't get "took", you "stole it".

V21 is the "black performance hood treatment".

V4X is the "black canopy vinyl roof".

Would you like to sell the car?

Guys, especially M&M - really appreciate the info and the "peace of mind". My heart really skipped a few beats when I didn't see the option code on my fender tag.

I feel much better now!!

I definitely don't think you got took. That is one fine a looking charger! Love the hideaway headlights. I had a chance to get one in 2012 bronze and tan but couldn't afford the 5000 at the time. Man I wanted that car so bad.

spot on, lynch rd. don't put a lot of stuff on fender tag .only way to tell for sure is to find your build sheet try looking under rear seat

Perhaps he will chime in.

I agree that Lynch Road cars don't always get all the options on the tag, and IIRC it's documented that some LY Rally cars don't have the code.

69CoronetRT posted a thread about how to tell the axle packages on LY cars a while ago.

I believe the code just didn't get stamped. I have the same issue on my 69' 383 Cuda. No A57 code, but it has every option that came with the A57 PKG on the tag,and On the build sheet.
