In 1970 a Sox & Martin Plymouth won or runnered up in every event that they entered in that year. Yep they won 17 major events and runnered up in every other event they entered ! Most were won by Ronnie but Herb McCandless won a few and runnered up at a few. I know Don Carlton drove for them early in 1970 as he drove the 68 Cuda in Pro Stock at the Winternationals and qualified 5th with a 10.17. Thats counting NHRA , AHRA and any other event like the SuperStock Nationals and others. Dominating isn't good enough to describe it. And in 1971 in Pro Stock Ronnie Sox was even more dominate. Just some facts about the greatest drag racing team ever. Ron

Yep and in 71 they went to Pro Stock because the NHRA was making them add weight to their Super Stock cars to "even things out" with the Chevys and Fords.

That is domination on the highest level.

Sox and Martin are right up there with Dick Landy, Richard Petty, and Don Garlits in my Mopar heroes book - among others.

Why is it always the Mopars getting punished for just being better. I didn't know about the weight being added its like how nascar made the superbird put restrictor plates on the hemis and they still killed the Chevys and Ford's.

It seems easy for some people to hate what they don't understand and it's even worse when that party keeps kicking your ***.

A true legendary team

NHRA and Harley-Davidson are going through this right now. HD too fast, no competition. They added weight,Didn't stop them.Next year the have to run a new engine configuration.

NHRA P/SM Harley has allot big displacement engines, ten their competitors, they are 160ci thou, they had to give Harley's bigger displacement engines & 4 valve per/cylinder or they couldn't even qualify prior to that... 20 lbs added isn't **** for all the extra cubes {something like 60ci more, than the Suzuki's}, next year will be much different, 2 valve per/cylinder, same displacement {supposedly} & other some serious rules changes in NHRA P/SM....

It was so great having the Sox & Martim team being in Mopars because they won about 98% of their races. Course being in Mopars did help. I knew everytime I saw Sox in his super bad 68 Cuda line up next to the Grumps Camaro that the Cuda was going to win 98% of the time !! Ron

NHRA like NASCAR caters to what they think the fans want. GM guys complained about the Hemis and threatened to pull out so the NHRA practically factored them out of existence in Pro Stock. Interestingly, when Bob Glidden dominated in 1978 with his cleveland powered Fairmont, the GM guys did it again. The NHRA put weight on the Fords, so Bob switched to a small block Plymouth Arrow and was so dominate that the NHRA took the weight off the Fords and he switched back. I don't think he gets enough recognition for winning the championship after switching brands like he did. I think it was one of MoPar's greatest moments. I was lucky enough to grow up just 25 miles from the S&M shop and did a lot of business with Herb and the boys.
