I was at a car show last week showing my Belvedere when a couple came up and gave the car a good look. They were on vacation from Sweden and were quite the car people. After a little show tell about my car they started to tell their car stories about the different cars they had over the years. When they came to the story about their 1965 Plymouth Belvedere they had with a Perkins diesel in it, I started to ask questions. They had ordered the car new and had it imported. Diesel was cheeper fuel than gas so thats why they got the diesel.
He went on talking how dependable the car was until the wife corrected him by saying "France"? The 4 speed trans broke on their vacation in France and left them stranded for two weeks till the parts were shipped from the US to fix the car.
Didn't know diesels were offered in cars for export at that time.
Some time it might be fun find a old Perkins and stick it in a old Plymouth.

I have thought about dropping an Ecodiesel into and early b-body wagon down the road. You can get a unit from Banks thats a standalone but its kinda pricey, which is not surprising. I like the power and the 30+ on the mileage but have seen and heard of some catastrophic failures with them but I wonder how many of them are owner incurred. Dropping a late Hemi in is probably a better solution and easier.
