i was wondering what the difference between the 8.75 suregrip which uses clutches to lock up the side gears in the diff and the dana 60. does the dana60 have clutches in it also or is it more like a detroit locker.

Clutches are in both.

The 4 pinion 8 3/4" has a very similar setup to the Dana but the two pinion version of the 8 3/4 uses cone clutches.

so they both have clutches in em and the dana still has the cross, pinion gears side gears and etc. whats the differnce between the dana clutches and suregrip. besides the suregrip has cone clutches

I believe the locking diff for a MoPar is referred to as a Sure Grip no matter what the design. Cone clutches are just another way of getting the job done and I'm sure it was cheaper to produce. The Dana Sure Grip unit is huge compared to the 8.75" and the 4 pinion type shares the same design as the 68 and earlier 8.75" unit typically found in the 742 case.

I have new clutch-kit for both Dana 60 and 8 3/4 I can take a picture if you want to see the difference in size between them.

There is a "locker" kit available that replaces the spider gears in an open carrier and turns it into a sure grip/locker/posi/....turns both wheels. Works well in a friend's Max Wedge

hey 68 gtx. i would love to see the size difference of the clutches if its not to much of a hassle for you take pics

8 3/4 is a Yukon Streetversion sure grip,Dana 60 is a 35 spline 1970 Powerlock
