I have a 67 coronet with numbers telling me it should be a 273 v8.
It has shortie headers on it so I cant see the number on the side.
is there anywhere else to look or how to know or tell if its a 273 or a 318? I know its not a poly 318, its the LA engine...
plus id like to know if its matching number engine to car...

any help be appreciated.

Should be some numbers on the left front of the block just below the head gasket line. You may have to clean that area very well and/or sand it a little to see them. Side of the block should have the casting numbers too and that should also include the size of the engine.

It could very well be a 273 in 67. The main difference is the 273 has a smaller bore size than the 318.

I believe all 273's came with solid lifters so if you can look thru the oil filler you should be able to see if it has adjustable rockers.

I have to post it before someone else does. The difference is 45 cubic inches.

Also no "matching" numbers in 1967.

Just a date code that corresponds to a few weeks before the build date on the car.

Pull a valve cover and see if it has adjustable rockers.

looking at engine last night, standing in front of car, on driver side right below head gasket is some numbers...and wallah...stamped in the midst of all that is 273....
but yes I will pull the valve cover to check that also. needs new gaskets anyways.
it was painted red...which kinda thru me for a loop...that's usually 318's I thought.
