318 Six Pack
Well-Known Member
Well, after a few years of disposable income being on the tight side, I have decided to get back to work on the '72 Rallye Charger without a six-pack in the visible horizon. No boring, stroking, or changing heads just yet either. Upgrading the intake and carb to a Holley four barrel, but that won't be right away either. Some best practices on painting an aluminum intake manifold to Chrysler blue, and having it last forever, would be great.
Since the car has been sitting for a few years and the last time I tried to start I couldn't get any fuel, the first order of business will be emptying all that old gas from the tank and attempting to clean the gas line with carb cleaner. Spraying it from the engine side and seeing if that will work, eventually, down to the tank. Then, fill the tank with 100% gasoline and make sure she runs every week or so.
It is not in the best spot to work, but I want to avoid having to change the line if possible. If not, will have the aspirin handy for the soreness.
Next up, finding that pesky leaking bolt where the right-side petcock is supposed to be. Prediction: It won't leak until there is 5" of snow on the ground. For some reason I cannot manage to find the stupid thing unless it is leaking, and when it was leaking I couldn't budge it. Have a torch handy this time in case it still does not want to move.
The decision to put off the six-pack is purely financial. If it were the same price or close as a four barrel setup, I would do that. Actually, if I could figure out how to use the total of three Carter 2bbl's I have and cobble that into a six-pack, I would try that for sure as soon as I got the gas flowing!
Anyway, that's it for now. All tips are welcome, good tips preferred
