I have a 69 RR and I am replacing the front crossmember with one from a donor car that I was told was a 69 Coronet. After removing the RR one and comparing to the Coronet one, the depth of the torsion bar socket is deeper on the Coronet one. I noticed the difference as it obvious.

So, question is, when I am done will I need different torsion bars than the original 69 RR ones? Was there different length torsion bars by model and year?

First two pictures are of 69 RR with cross member installed. See how short the left is?
Last two are the donor car. See how much longer it is?

Thanks,

I believe there are only two sizes- 62 to 72 and then 73 -79 was different. Please speak to dick at www.firmfeel.com to confirm.

The donor torsion bar crossmember looks to be one removed from a 62-65 B-body
car. I believe the donor crossmember to be a little longer in length if IIRC.

I believe the wheelbase is different between Coronet and Road Runner, just don't know where it comes out of. Coronet is longer by a smidge.

1" longer wheel base between Dodge and Plymouth simply comes from the front hanger length for the leaf spring attach. Dodge is an inch longer..

Ya frames and floors are the same between Dodge and Plymouth for 66-70. Dodge rear axle sits an inch back versa Plymouth.
Now 63-4 Dodge has different rear footwell pans and rockers than Plymouth.

Hmm, The crossmember fits in the location perfectly. I saw the car it came off of and it was a 69-70 Coronet. I am not making a restoration here, can I just use a longer torsion bar? Its not really a part of the crossmember I can cut off and change as its a key part of the structure.

Also, email sent to Firm Feel Tech (Dennis)

If it came from a 69-70B then someone other than the factory installed in it.
62-72 all used the same T/bar. Only longer ones are 73-up.

Ok, the car was in two pieces so maybe he was confused. I'll see what Firm Feel says.

I am actually really annoyed because it took me some time to remove all the welds attached to this without damaging it and cleaning it up. A lot of wasted time if I cannot use it.

You can always sell it. I get 275.00 for a 62-5 cross member all day long. No makes it.
What is Firm Feel going to tell you that we haven't?
I've removed upwards of 30 T/bar cross members from 62-74 B's and E bodies over the years. Doubt Firm Fell has done that.

Looks like I am selling it. Thanks for the advice.
