I have an aftermarket chrome tube that i need to take out. I tried gripping it with a rag in the jaws of vice grips, by the base, and tapping upward, but no luck. Other than dropping the pan, and knocking it out, is there another trick i might try ?

Should pull out. Try the twist and pull method. If you can get it lose by twisting then it should come out. Otherwise, tapping from the bottom is about it.

After it is cut or broken down by the block you can run a lag bolt type of screw into the leftover piece and tap it out from under the car with a flat pry bar. Perhaps even use a tap and vice grips.

Tip before you try to put another in. Use drill bits like a hand file to clean the bore out.

Is it possible to heat the tube with a butane torch. Not to a red glow. But it will change the diameter of the tube.

Thanks guys, i finally got it. I put tape on my vise grip teeth, and got a tighter bight.
