The 1978 360 LA I just bought has this distributor in it. What type of electronic points is that? Is that better than the aftermarket Pertronix ignitor unit I put in my 318?

Looks like the factory electronic unit.
The better part will depend on whom asked?
As far as I am concerned a trigger is a trigger and that is all it is.

A stock Mopar electronic distributor will work pretty darn well.
Awesome. With the Pertronix unit I had to by pass the voltage regulator. With the mopar dizzy do I hook the VR back up? It's a 1970 Belvedere and a 1978 360 I'm swapping in. Does the '78 dizzy use a different VR than the '70 VR with a points dizzy?

Connect it to just about any VR as indicated in the manual. I believe the gap is .016 to .022 but use a brass feeler to set reluctor to pickup gap. Use a quality VR that meets or exceeds Chrysler specs. This is in fact a capacitive discharge ignition distributor when coupled with the proper VR.

Try .008 to .010 on the air gap. Not setting contact points here.

Does it wire to the coil just like my '70 with points? Both wires to the coil?

No it has to run through the ecu.

my book shows it as a 79 360 4bbl truck distributor.
