On mine the kick back link at the throttle is in the middle of the slot. 440HP /w Carter AVS. '67 727 xmsn.

Lots of variables for the arm on the trans and the linkage. Sometimes a Lokar kit for this may help solve problems. I personally like the factory set up but the cable set up works pretty decent , you may have to fab a bracket or tweak something .. If it’s a nice car and original in it’s set up go with the stick stuff IMO.

Every engine is different even models with the same engine are different but some of the components may be the same between models and engines. There is a kickdown extension part you need. Let me see if I can find it.

According to Chrysler and the FSM they did not use an AVS until 1968. 1967 AFB has special idle adjustments and the procedure is in your Service Manual.

Edelbrock #8004 will help you with that. With not enough throttle pressure to the transmission through the linkage you can damage the transmission.

Cool, thanks Mike
The car is a 71 charger with 440HP, original engine but, 67 transmission.

Would the throttle pressure (or lack of) cause it to not shift into 3rd ?

If it had too much. Too little will cause it to shift very early. It might be in 3rd. By 10-15mph and no kickdown. The linkage when properly adjusted should look something like this at idle. Depending on the design, the spring will keep the linkage against the pin.

Yeah, it definitely isn't in 3rd. Driving down the road it shifts great from 1 to 2 but nothing after that.

The picture is helpful ! thanks !

The linkage should be pulled forward by a spring... If it's allowed to hang rearward the trans will not upshift to high gear... If it doesn't have enough rearward travel the shifts will be early & soft which can & will burn the clutches...
