I have a German Shepherd Dog and a Weimaraner puppy. I take my GSD for long runs (4-6 miles) and to pass the time while running I try to talk to him in German since he may be able to understand me better than English. I am training my five month old Weimaraner and use basic German commands for sit, stay, heel and so forth. Is anyone fluent in German to help me out on a few phrases? I would like to use a few commands or statements, but do not know if I am using them correctly and I do not want to offend my German dogs with my broken German:

Lass uns laufen gehen = Let's go running.
Diesen Weg = This way.
Guter hund or is it more approriate to say 'Braver hund' = Good dog.
Lauf = Run.

aus =leave it (remember schultzy on hogans heros )
her komm en =come here (one word herkommen )
sitz =sit
platz= down
bleib= stay ( the I is stongnly pronounced )

Fahrvergnügen = driving enjoyment

Fukengruven = same as above but with a chick

Scheisse = ****

Keine Scheisse = no ****

Just feed them treats along with the command. As long as you're consistent they'll understand any language you speak to them....... Broken or otherwise

Anybody mention Achtung? That's "Attention" in German. My shepherd always liked that one!

nothing to do with dogs but handy to know Brustwarz = nipple :glasses2:

Start with "Sprechen zie duetsch?"
If they don't understand that, stick with English.

I used to be fluent in German. Lived in Düsseldorf for 3 years ..
