I was changing out my door sill plates for after market ones as my originals were beat to Cleveland and back. On the driver side there is a thin strip of metal that is really doing nothing that is attached to the end of the plate. The passenger side is bare. Does anyone know if this thin piece of metal is for the carpet and should it be there from the factory? Should it be under the carpet instead floating on top of it?
Thanks again,
Mark

that piece of metal holds the carpet down in the back from the door jamb to the back seat. there should be one on each side. i got mine on ebay.. the aftermarket ones i found to not fit well, but it gives it a nice finished look.

Is is supposed to just sit on top of the carpet? It looks as if the open end should fit into a bolt or something else to hold that end down.

it fits on top of the carpet...yes...but like i said earlier,,,,the fit is terrible...but its better than having a floppy carpet in the back seat. all is does is hold it down and cleans up the look

i had to drill new holes in my car to get these to anchor well,,,,you may have better luck. ill get a pic of mine for ya as soon as i can....but i have been told that mine are installed incorrectly....but its the only way i could get them to stay put. !:headbang:

sill plates

ok,,,i got ya some pix. like i said,,,i have been told mine ARE NOT installed correctly but its the only way i could get them to stay where i wanted them and hold the carpet down.

i believe they go under the rear panel and on top of the carpet for a finished look...but i had a hell of a time getting them to fit like that...so this is what i ended up with. they prevent the carpet in the rear from looking like CRAP.

Hey Dog, are you saying that yours are installed the correct direction but should be under the rear trim instead of sorta outside it? I'm trying to figure out the same thing as Mark on my car.

Mark - How long is your trim piece? I have a few extras of different lengths that might help. PM me if you want.

see in my pics where the small piece of metal goes under the door sill plate?...mine is on backwards because thts the only way i could get it to stay put and get screws in it. yes it is installed incorrectly.....HOWEVER...it dont look all that bad and kinda does what its supposed to do.

i got mine on ebay and they dont fit worth a fiddlers F*** so thats how i HAD to put them in.... i do believe they should fit directly under the sill plate creating one smooth line. but i couldnt get them to do that without bending the crap out of them.

Hi Mark

We recently bought these parts from Year One for our 69 Sport Satellite, as they were missing when we bought the car (27 years ago ) and they fitted fine. YO call them scuff plates.

Dunno if you've sorted it out yet (saw this thread earlier last week but I didnt have any pics to hand), but you're right in saying that your 1st pic shows it fitted incorrectly - the recess that you can see at one end should fit under the screw that goes thru the end of the sill plate. The other end disappears under the back seat.

It's right also that it sits on top of the carpet and below the rear 'door' panel.

Below is a pic of the Year One parts (pinched from their website), a pic of our car before the sill plate was fitted (so you can see the open slot at the end of the scuff plate), and a pic of it fitted.... tho it's tricky to see the ends as they are hidden below the sill plate and below the seat.

Sorry the pics are a bit dark - the car's still in the garage and with a black interior, it's tricky to get enough daylight in there to get a decent photo!
