Good evening, I have a question regarding the driver side versus passenger side door latches. I did a search and saw a thread similar, but didn’t have any answers. You can see on the red circled areas the differences between the two. Seems like this may be common on one side versus the other or is something missing/broken? Can’t remember exactly which side goes where but obviously it’s going to be hard to mix them up because they can only go in one way. I figured it may be something where only there is a key latch on one side versus the other, but my door has a key latch on both sides. I’m sure this is something y’all already knew. Thanks again for the help.

key latch and door lock rod. Google part number and it should tell you for what side. I tagged and bagged mine, can look tomorrow for you if no answer.

Thank you, I can definitely figure out which side they are because of the screw pattern when it comes time to install, I was just wondering if one side was missing something versus the other. You can tell the difference between the two red circles that a piece is missing

Awesome pics. We’ll make reassembly so much easier. Thank you
I’ve run into this and never figured it out completely. My original driver latch looked similar to your bottom pic. I ordered a used one from a place in Canada and received a latch similar to your top pic. The functional difference is that the top latch won’t open your door by only pulling the release handle if the door is locked. You have to pull the lock knob up, then pull the release handle to open the door. The bottom latch - pull the release handle and the door opens, even if locked.

Drivers is different so it pops the lock if you close a locked door, so you can't lock your keys in the car!

Showing the OP a Charger setup is just going to confuse him, as it's different tham all other B bodies..

Great explanation

Perfect. Thanks for the explanation

You guys are very helpful and knowledgeable. I built a Factory 5 cobra about 10 years ago and their forums were invaluable. Much more here. Thanks again

That makes sense. FYI - my original passenger side latch does that. You can’t lock you keys in the car, you must lock the passenger door with the key. Driver’s too I think (after turning the top lock into the bottom lock with a cutoff wheel and a welder), but I haven’t tried to close the driver door with it already locked
