Just got the gaskets for my doors and trunk locks. Is there a secret to getting the door locks back in???

Thanks!

They can be a bitch!!!

If the car was just painte get a small file and cleanup where the locks go thru the door there is a right and left also.

Does the small rod inside the door have to be attached to the lock and then reattached to the door mechinism?

How can you tell the difference? I just got replacements from a donor car, all the locks and ignition. There appears to be a flat spring clip inside the door that has to be removed...am I on the right track? The locks fit the holes fine...

Bob,
There is a right and left,if it is in the wrong side you can't get the rod connected.Once you have the spring clip off the inside you have to take the lock assemble out about half way and rotate it to get the rod out,.You have to put it back in the same way,put the lock into the door far enough to get the rod into the link on the lock then rotate the lock until you can get it in the door then push the spring clip back on the lock.Just remember,if you put the lock in and put the spring clip on,you won't get the rod connected. It's easy if you take your time but ,it can also be a PITA just the same.
Good luck,
Bill

Also,if you would have stayed in Huntingdon it would be real easy !:D

OK, I will give it a try, funny part is I didn't have to remove anything to get the lock out before it was painted. If I was still in Huntingdon I would have a boat and not a car..
