I am looking for feedback before the purchase of a Steck skin zipper. What do you guys use? the old fashioned plier type? Attached is a video of the zipper. Incase the link does not work the video is on youtube.

That thing looks pretty slick! Design makes sense. Better than getting a bad angle with the steel head crimps and jacking things up. How much?

The cost is a whopping $29. The plier crimp tool is $60. I just need to use something that wont make waves in the outer skin.

Seems everyone wants one for their tool box, anyone have used it yet? am I going to be the first on the forum?

try getting the crimped over skin to have the same contour as the original to match the fender or quarter , especially if your new skin may have slightly more material than the original skin at the factory , this tool is totally relying on the shape of the inner door frame.

We use them at the shop. They do have a learning curve thats for sure. Works but it noisy.

I like the looks of this one, salty as it is.

By now you surely must have figured out I'm only looking for company in the poor house.

The steck skinner is garbage !! If you like repairing a new panel all the way around the hem flange it is all you. After 25 years in the collision industry the only tool that is fail safe to doing door skins properly is a quality body hammer and hockey puck. The shark door skinner works well, but requires hammer and dolly work to finish in areas. All these tools require you to start the repair in some way with hammer and dolly. Trust me if there is a tool to make the job easier or quicker I will own it!!! Save your money! If you are looking for good quality hammers try dagger tools, stream line, and snap on are my favorites.

A simple Body hammer and puck like Moparpoor is the only thing that works. Plus think about the skill you will learn. Also a good caulking gun for body adhesive is nice.
