This Bee On Video clip takes a look at a best of three match race between “Dyno” Don Nicholson’s 1965 A/FX Mercury Comet and Billy “Big Deal” Jacob’s 1965 Hemi powered Dodge Dart. The match race takes place at Phenix Dragway in Phenix City, Alabama. In this clip we take a look at the cars and drivers in the pit area as well as the on-track racing action. We also include an interview with “Big Deal” and he tells us about the race and his interaction with Dyno Don. This clip shows us what a booked-in match race attraction was like back in 1965. We hope you enjoy the show.Jim Amos Bee On Video

Very cool video thanks for sharing
it brings back some great memories

Hay-day of 'doored cars' drag racing, pretty cool

I started going to the tracks with my stepfather Bob in about 1967,
(diehard Pontiac & Mopar guy S/S & Stock Eliminator classes)
all up & down the west coast 20 (28 ?) something tracks in Calif. alone
another dozen or more in Oregon, Washington, Nevada (like 40 in total)
I was only 8, taking photos with my Brownie Camera, later a Polaroid
(man I wish I knew where them photos were)
I had to wear white pants as a crew member to even be in the pits,
I found that rather strange...
But it was even better then, evolved some from 65, set up the future of Funny Cars,
Dyno Don was one of if not the 1st with a hinged flip up or floppers bodies,
Mercury Caliente candy Orange like a bass boat, w/SHOC 427 Ford
but when they started the AWB & FX or AFX classes, blower & injected on Nitro
because the 'cars looked funny',
Ramchargers & Mopars/a bunch of privateers with Hemi cars dominated
Ontario Interantional Motor Speedway, LACR, *Fremont, *Sacramento, *Bakerfield, Riverside
Redding, *Oroville, *Halfmoon Bay, Lions, Long Beach or Orange County International,
a bunch more, all mostly 1/4 miles stuff, w/32 or 64 F/Cs fields, (*home tracks)
& even 1/8 mile stuff at *Vacca Valley, Bob ran until like (from 1961-62-ish) to 72-73-ish regularly,
then part time, me from 1975 raced 3-4 times a week, wed., thur., fri., sat.
T&T or points races or brackets
until I started NHRA class racing in 1977...
