red1.jpg Greetings to all you Mopar Die Hards and B-Body Lovers, my name is Bob from south central Texas. Just recently joined FABO and got here as soon as I could as well. I can't say enough good things about the two sites, great people wanting to share their knowledge, passion and love of the greatest group of cars of the muscle car era. (My personal opinion of course.) I just recently was blessed to become the new proud owner of my first muscle car, a '66 Coronet 440, red 2dr. hrd.top, numbers match 426 with auto, posi-trac Dana, black bench, in beautiful condition, original paint. I am still struck with awe every time I look at her, sit behind the wheel, or start her up. Like a dream. I grew up in a Rambler/AMC; Chrysler-Plymouth- Dodge-Jeep dealership. Dad went from owning/operating an independent gas station to talking Rambler into letting him have a franchise in 1962. He then acquired Chrysler/Plymouth in '64 and Dodge in '68. Ended up dropping AMC somewhere around 1970, I believe. My brother and I continued running the dealership after his death until the Chrysler bankruptcy of '08-'09 when they terminated our, along with over 900 other, franchises across the country. So even though I still have a very sour taste in my mouth (only being polite here) for Chrysler Corp, I am and always will be, a true Mopar blue blood, in love with all their muscle cars of the late '60s, early '70s, AMC included, but we won't go there on this site. As I mentioned earlier, the '66 Hemi Coronet is actually the first I've owned because as you can guess, when your Dad owns the store you sometimes get to sample the candy without having to buy it. My second baby is a beautiful '67 Dart GTS convertible, turquoise blue, black trim and top, 383-4bbl., 4-spd., posi-trac. So my thanks to all, who combined, make this a great site for all of us still fascinated and in love with muscle cars. I'm not very computer literate but will attempt to put up some photos with more in the future.

Welcome. I have a good friend that worked for Chrysler back in the day along with his whole family. He moved to Texas in the early 80's and hired on with one of Houston's top dealers in sales and went up the ladder from there so because of that, I too got to 'sample' a lot of cars of that era including many Vipers. GLHS anyone? Those were one crazy econoboxes lol. I also worked for him later on doing long distance dealer trades. As for the dealership closings....what is/was your political leaning? If you look into it you might find that the majority of the dealerships that were shut down was due to their ties with the Republican party. I don't have so much of a sour taste in my mouth for Chrysler as I do for our political process. Politics for me was always on the back of my mind but didn't pay much attention to it until 06 when I retired. Kinda wish I had paid closer attention to what was going on during that period. If I had been, I may have worked for another couple of years or so. And post some pics of your cars!!

Sounds like an awesome car.....but seeing is the key. we need pics,we need pics. Welcome to the site fellow Texan.

Welcome..wow a 426 in a 66.thats a great Rare car you have there.not many made w/a Hemi that yr.1st year for that street Hemi too..very fortunate...God Bless ya..Barry

Thanks for the welcome, Cranky. Well as you may have already guessed, Conservative Republicans. The worst part of the whole situation was the feeling of betrayal by Chrysler, after having been a dealer for 45 years. That and the fact that not only was my family out of a way to earn a living but all of our dedicated employees who had been with us for so many years were out of work as well. Hell, I ended up having to go to work as a service advisor for our competitor at the local Chevy store, a job that I was greatful to have at the time! But that's all behind me now that I am retired and lovin every minute of it. You know "true retirement is being a kid again but without parental supervision"! :)
