How close to the back of the transmission should the u-joint be? The one in my 65' Belvedere has about 3" of the slip yoke shaft showing.

thanks, Bob

Yup, way too much and it'll wear your rear bushing pretty fast if you run it that way.

I assume that picture was taken with the car on a lift and the rear end hanging on the suspension. Be interesting to see the gap with the car sitting on the ground. Probably still way too much space. Don't want that baby coming apart at speed. Only bad things can happen.

Car was flat on the ground. I had a new shaft made recently and apparently the shop made it the same length as what was on the car instead of what it should be. Live and learn. I will fix next year when I pull it out of storage.

Thanks for all the help, Bob

Don't Worry Bob! You'll Get Help In Figuring It Out! I Went Through The Same Thing With My Satellite And A Singing Rear End! There Is A Correct Way To Fix It! Would Suggest Talking To Your Neighborhood Transmission & Rear-End Shop! Good Luck!

Curious,
You didn't happen to install the Super Stock springs and hangers did you?
