What length driveshaft will I need for my car? I have a 65 Belvedere with a factory 4 speed with the ball and trunnion. I want to put a newer 4 speed in and do away with the B&T and just have a slip yoke. Would a d-shaft from a 66-70 B-body work??, as I have a friend who might have one.
Thanks,
Daryl (cwmoss)

Daryl, rule of thumb to determine correct drive shaft length is to install the slip yoke as far as it will go into the trans, (don't force it), and measure from center of the u-joint to the center of the rear u-joint, then subtract 1/2". The measurement should be taken at ride heigth.

Thanks bluefury, If I have to have one made, I'll use that info.

I got one out of the salvage that was 58" or so and had it cut to fit.

No idea of what it was out of but a large c-body shaft will work and they're plentiful.

I had one done two weeks ago for my '63 330 and it ended up being 54 1/4" center to center. Mine has a later 727 with a slip yoke too.

Keep in mind that wheelbases are different between the years. Mine is 119" and I believe the '65's are 117".

Cost me $126.00 for a local shop to cut, balance, and install 2 new joints with one being the Spicer conversion 7260 to 7290 joint. (5-527x)

They had me put the yoke in the transmission, pull it out half an inch and then measure center of yoke to center of pinion yoke on the rear. All while the car is on the ground.

Thanks guys for the info. I am going to be under it this weekend changing out the carrier, so after I finish that, I'll do a measurement and see what I come up with.
