At static height, car sitting on all four tires level how far should you be able to push the yoke in on the trans if you unstrapped the rear u joint. In other words how far from bottom should the front yoke be at rest. Or how long should the driveshaft be in a 66 coronet with a 727 and 8.75?. Mine seems to be exposed quite a bit and i,m wondering if my new springs and hangers have shifted my axle back.

If you have the tail shaft seal with the boot the radius of the yoke is really close to the boot, maybe 1/2" away. Otherwise you can expect about 1.5" from the yoke radius to the tail shaft. Another way to look at it is you should have enough room plus a little extra to push the drive shaft in to get it away from the rear yoke before it bottoms out.

If you go to mancini racing and look up the new drive shafts they sell, they tell you to have the transmission yolk out of the tail shaft one inch.
